Even sophisticated flower growers, who are difficult to surprise with anything, say that this carnation has a truly unearthly aroma. This is the champion among fragrant plants!
Its flowers with dissected petals give the impression of lightness and grace. The color scheme is quite diverse - from pure white to intense purple, through all shades of pink and red. Flowering is abundant and long. It blooms already in the year of sowing!
Sowing: March-May.
Flowering: June-July. Extremely winter-hardy variety, withstands up to -50°C.
Location: сarnations prefer a sunny location. Very sensitive to winter thaws are immature young and adult plants that have reached the flowering stage. For planting valuable and rare varieties, it is desirable to create elevated areas.
Soil: requires fertile, non-acidic, loamy garden soil. They do not tolerate waterlogging and especially stagnant water.
Care: a serious danger awaits carnations in early spring, when the temperature changes dramatically during the day: the sun warms during the day, and starts to freeze at night. Therefore, non-frost-resistant varieties are covered with spruce branches since autumn so that the branches create an arch over the plants. Shelter is removed after the end of regular frosts. Varietal carnations react very positively to fertilizing with fertilizers, the introduction of humus (fresh manure cannot be used). The faded stems of all carnations are cut 10-15 cm from the surface of the earth. Then a complex mineral fertilizer is applied, watered, and the soil is loosened. About a month later, new shoots grow, and in the fall, secondary flowering begins in some species.
